Frequently asked questions

Service

Are your services covered under Medicare?

No, our services are private care. We don't provide any skilled nursing care, which Medicare covers. Our services cover domestic care ( hygiene assistance, light housekeeping, companionship, etc.). In some instances, Medicare part A and Medicare part B will pay for short-term medically necessary services. Medicare will not cover your loved one that requires only non-medical care. ( such as hygiene assistance, companionship, meal preparation, and housekeeping services).

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No, a referral isn't required. We need a complete history of the client's condition (medications, surgeries, hospital visits, and diagnosis) and contact information on all care providers (Primary physician, ophthalmologist, neurologist, cardiologist, dentist, surgeon, and psychologist).

What is the process to begin services?

Step 1 After the initial call from the client, we suggest scheduling a home & patient assessment. A Care Manager conducts the inspections. The Care Manager evaluates the home condition for any needed modification, room reorganization, and cleaning. Each client is assessed based on their physical situation, schedule needs, personality, communication level, hobbies, and social interest. It usually takes 45min to 1 hour to complete. The fee is $125.00. Step 2 Upon completion of the assessment, the Care Manager will draft a complete personalized plan of care & a contract within 72 hours. Once the contract is signed & payment received, Care Manager will forward the client's information to the Scheduler. Step 3 The Scheduler conducts a review of available caregivers that will match the client's criteria. A caregiver is assigned based on these criteria. The entire process takes approximately 2.5 weeks before services can begin, though it can commence sooner.

Will my insurance cover for these services?

Based on your insurance coverage, some plans offer reimbursement payments for services provided. Contact your insurance provider to review your current policy. Private health insurance plans will not cover 100 percent for non-medical care services. Long-term care insurance benefits depend on the policy purchased. They can cover the cost of home health care, nursing home, and assisted living. The plan will need to include an allowance of non-medical services. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Standard Medical Benefits Package can provide various home care services to deliver respite care for veterans and their family caregivers. The Veterans Health Administration has programs available for eligible veterans who meet the requirements for standard benefits such as Home Health Aide Services, Skilled Home Health Care Services, Home-Based Primary Care, and Homemaker Care programs; additional conditions may apply.

What are the benefits of hiring an Independent Caregiver?

Benefits of going the independent route:

  • Choices: This step requires more due diligence on your part. Hiring an independent caregiver allows you to choose a caregiver.
  • Flexibility: Caregivers working under an agency are limited to the duties they are authorized to perform. A hired independent caregiver can assist with a broader range of tasks such as medication administration or checking a patient’s blood sugar.
  • Scheduling: Working with an agency limits the days & hours services are available. You can work directly with the independent caregiver for an accommodating schedule for both parties. Along with the flexibility, there is also the risk of not having a backup with this option.
  • Cost: Due to no overhead expenses, the cost of hiring an independent caregiver will be less and usually negotiable.
An essential factor is to find the option that will be best for you and your loved one. Review your options & take the first step.

Should I have a written agreement with the Caregiver?

Yes, establishing a personal care agreement ( contract) protects you ( the client) & the caregiver. A written agreement defines & set boundaries of services the caregiver will perform. Include the following vital components in the contract to avoid payments to the caregiver classified as a gift by Medicaid:

  • Details of the services the caregiver will perform ( activities of daily living, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and hygiene assistance)
  • You (the client) must be established an agreement with the caregiver before the caregiver's start date.
  • You( the client) and the caregiver must sign, date and notary this agreement. ( A power of attorney for the client may sign on their behalf when current medical condition hinder their ability)
  • Specify rates for services.
It is vital that the caregiver documents the services provided, track the time log and payment receipt. If the client will file a Medicaid application, this document identifies the purpose of the payments made to the caregiver. You can direct additional questions & concerns to an attorney that specializes in elder law. If you are interested in using our virtual tracking system, contact us at nviwings@gmail.com
